EMPIRE STATE BUILDING ANNOUNCES SKYRIDE CLOSING

January 16, 2015

New York, New York, January 16, 2015 – The Empire State Building today announced that the Skyride attraction, which has been located in the Empire State Building for more than twenty years, closed on December 31, 2015.

While Skyride was never affiliated in any way with the Empire State Building or Empire State Realty Trust (the “Company”), it did operate within the Empire State Building and, with its pervasive street hawker presence in the neighborhood surrounding the Empire State Building, caused confusion amongst tourist visitors and congestion for tenants and their visitors.

Empire State Building Observatory Director Jean-Yves Ghazi stated, “Skyride’s aggressive sidewalk hawkers were an ongoing nuisance.  We welcome their departure and support New York City’s regulation of such practices.”
